This is a useful reminder when I’m faced with my aging body—your inner athlete is evolving. Because, I used to identify as an athlete.
I played soccer and did cheerleading in high school. I did epic 15-mile runs for lunch in college, and even into my early 30s I rode my bike literally everywhere (until that fateful day I got into a bike accident which inevitably secured me and Eric’s relationship but that’s a story for another day).
Needless to say, movement was second nature — sweaty, spirited, even competitive. I trained hard, chased goals, and wore my sore muscles like a badge of honor.
But something shifted.
Injuries, life transitions, burnout, growing businesses — they all added up. And suddenly that word — athlete — didn’t feel like it belonged to me anymore. I wasn’t running anywhere or lifting heavy. And I wasn’t chasing personal bests. I had unknowingly subscribed to being an athlete without realizing it.
Despite this, there was a stirring deep down; I wasn’t done.
I didn’t want intensity for intensity’s sake. I wanted to feel powerful in my body — not at war with it.
That’s what led me to the Barre + Pilates fusion you know today as Barre Eclipse. And for this season, our SWEAT Program is all about recognizing that your inner athlete is evolving. She’s never left or abandoned you. She just plays differently these days.
This SWEAT program isn’t about proving you can still do it all. You’re evolving, after all, not going backwards. The “old you” had served you once upon a time, but you’re wiser now, with experience as your companion. Remember, your inner athlete is evolving. Keep coming back to that.
So, this month-long SWEAT program was created to help you reconnect with yourself, the one who had that fervor to move, but without the pressure. Without the punishment. Without needing to “bounce back” to anything.
I designed the SWEAT workouts as powerful, indeed, but they’re also sustainable. They blend barre, strength circuits, cardio bursts, and interval training in a way that meets your body right where it is.
You’re welcome to lift heavier, but also invited to keep it light. But you’ll move quicker. Maybe jump (yes, shoes are welcome this month!). And, more importantly, you’ll pause for rest. For breath. For reflection. And move with mindful precision, not performance, and most definitely not because someone else prescribed it to you.
Because that’s what unsubscribed athletes in this season do:
We listen to our bodies. We honor our edges. And we move forward with strength that supports us long after the workout is over.
Let’s be real: the fitness industry doesn’t know what to do with the woman who’s done chasing aesthetics.
Babe, I know you’re a woman who refuses to be told to shred, fix, hustle, or slim down. And you’re changing the narrative for generations to come. Your inner athlete is evolving, and this industry no longer serves you.
